The Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland

By Seif Kamel
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is a historical site located in a village that holds
the same name situated in Northern Poland. It was founded during the
13th century to extract salt and considered one of the most ancient in the
whole world. Today many tourists who travel to Poland would explore
this distinctive salt mine.
The mine was used for production for hundreds of years until 2007. The
impressive trait about the mine is that it hosts some remarkable
monuments. This includes several historical statues, temples, and a
cathedral. These establishments were created by the mine workers
through curving rocks made of salt.
The Wieliczka salt mine was added to the UNESCO World Heritage
sites in 2010. This is due to its historical significance and beauty.
Several travel packages to Poland these days have visits to the Wieliczka
salt mine.
