The Castel del Monte in Italy

By Seif Kamel
Situated at the South Eastern section of Italy, in the city of Andria, the
Castle del Monte is surely one of the most distinctive historical sites to
be explored in the country. Constructed in the 13 th century, the castle
draws the attention of several tourists who travel to Italy.
Commissioned by Emperor Frederick II, the Castel del Monte is popular
for its striking façade with its unique octagonal shape. The castle is
considered by many historians to be among the most remarkable to be
built in Europe in this period of time.
The castle mainly consists of two floors. Each of these floors contained
8 chambers and various rooms. Many of these chambers are featured
with its dome-like ceiling. Some elements of the castle are surely
influenced by Greco Roman styles and outlines.
