The Sumela Monastery in Turkey

   The Sumela Monastery is factually among the most distinctive
historical sites in Turkey. Perhaps its unique location, historical
significance, or its outstanding design and layout, many reasons
make travelers who tour Turkey visit the monastery.
   Dedicated to Virgin Mary, the monastery is located at the Mela
Mountain in the Trabzon District, near the shores of the Black Sea.
Originally constructed by the Romans in the 4 th century AD,
nevertheless, the structure we view today dates back to the 13 th
century.
   The Sumela Monastery consists mainly of the Rock Church. This

The Kunstkamera Museum in Russia

   The Kunstkamera was the first museum to be established in
Russia. Peter the Great founded this marvelous establishment in
1727. Afterwards. In 1879, the Russian Museum of Anthropology
and Ethnography. Today, many tourists who travel to Russia are
keen to explore the museum.
   The museums boasts a large collection of more than 2 million
items that illustrate various periods of the Russian history. Many

The Orvieto Cathedral in Italy

   The Cathedral of Orvieto is one of the most impressive Christian
monuments of Italy. Located in Orvieto in central Italy, the cathedral
was constructed during the 14 th century. Today, many tourists who spend
their vacations in Italy would explore this distinctive cathedral.
   Dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the cathedral is
perhaps the most important historical site of Orvieto and the whole
region. The façade of the cathedral is considered an open-air museum of
Christian styles of construction with elements dating to various periods
of time.
   The interior of the Orvieto Cathedral is featured with two magnificent
chapels that were extensively painted by some of the most skillful Italian
Renaissance artists. Although situated relatively away from the touristic
route of the country, a visit to the cathedral is a must for travelers who
are fond of art and history.

The National Museum of Alexandria

   Alexandria is a city of rich and long history. Established by Alexander
the Great during the 4 th century BC, Alexandria served as the capital of
Egypt for centuries. This is why the city hosts a large number of various
monuments and historical sites.
   Many of the findings explored all over Alexandria are displayed at the
National Museum of Alexandria. There are more than 2000 exhibits
dating to different periods of the history of Egypt. Several tours to

   There are exhibits dating back to the Pharaonic, Greco, Roman,
Byzantine, Islamic eras. The latest of the museum dates back to the reign
of the family of Mohamed Ali.

The Santa Maria del Mar in Spain

   The Santa Maria del Mar is one of the most astonishing historical sites
of Barcelona. Constructed around the end of the 14 th century, this
marvelous church exemplifies the Gothic styles and outlines of
Catalonia.
   Featured with its striking façade and huge dimensions, there are
distinctive portraits of saints that must be observed at the entrances of

   The interior of the church is never less notable than anything else about
it. With the outline of a basilica, with three aisles, the huge pillars of the

Jabrin Fort in Oman

   Jabrin Fort is one of the distinctive historical sites in Oman. Visitors to
the country usually are attracted to its natural magic and beauty.
Nevertheless, there are a few monuments that are quite worth a visit.
   Constructed in 1670 by Belarab ibn Sultan, the structure is quite
impressive with 3 floors, more than 50 rooms and carious chambers. The
fort also hosts the mausoleum of its founder; Belarab Ibn Sultan. Today,
it is among the highlights commonly included in many travel packages
to Oman.
   In 1982, the Omani government carried out extensive restoration works
in Jabrin Fort to become a national monument and an open air museum
of Islamic arts and styles.

The Pinakothek der Moderne in Germany

   The Pinakothek der Moderne is one of the most iconic modernly built
structures in Munich. This is among the largest and most impressive
modern art museums in the whole world. Several tourists who travel to
Germany are interested to visit this distinctive museum.
   The building of the museum became an important landmark of the
German capital. Stephan Braunfels, famous artists and architect
designed it and it was opened for public visits in 2002.
   Popular for its unique façade with white and grey concrete, there is the
striking huge dome that connects the four corners of the building. The
Pinakothek der Moderne hosts some historical collections of art. This is
in addition to some other galleries that change their exhibits from time to
time.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland

   The Wieliczka Salt Mine is a historical site located in a village that holds
the same name situated in Northern Poland. It was founded during the
13th century to extract salt and considered one of the most ancient in the
whole world. Today many tourists who travel to Poland would explore
this distinctive salt mine.
   The mine was used for production for hundreds of years until 2007. The
impressive trait about the mine is that it hosts some remarkable
monuments. This includes several historical statues, temples, and a
cathedral. These establishments were created by the mine workers
through curving rocks made of salt.
   The Wieliczka salt mine was added to the UNESCO World Heritage
sites in 2010. This is due to its historical significance and beauty.

The Ancient Ruins of Merida in Spain

However, the city hosts some quite impressive monuments dating to
various periods of history.
   Merida was established in the beginning of the 1 st century BC by the
Roman Emperor, Augustus. It was an important center for many
activities. This is why the city has many Roman ruins including one of
the most notable ancient bridges in the world and the largest constructed
by the Romans in Spain.
   There is also a nice amphitheater that is worth a visit. Merida has an
interesting museum; the National Museum of Roman Art, which is a
must visit for those who are fond of art and history.
   The Muslims, when they took control of large areas of Spain, gave
special attention to Merida. There is a Moorish castle that was
constructed in the 9 th century AD. In a nutshell, tourists who adore
historical sites and natural beauty should never miss the chance to
explore Merida.

The Hadrian’s Wall Path in England

   Have you ever known that England hosts a distinctive Roman
monument? Yes, this is the Hadrian’s Wall Path. This path extends for a
distance of more than 135 kilometers where it is very close to the
remains of a defensive wall constructed by the Romans thousands of
years ago.
   Travelers who tour England would walk or ride a bicycle in the path, or
parts of it. The Hadrian’s Wall is one of the unique monuments included
in the UNESCO World Heritage Sties. Away from history, the natural
scenery is superb!
   This ancient path actually begins at the Museum of Segedunum. The
first part of the path runs in beautiful urban areas where travelers who
spend their holidays in England enjoy exploring the everyday life of the
English. Exploring the path and the ancient fortified walls is quite
interesting for those who are in love with nature and ancient history.

   Chester Beatty is a remarkable library that was afterwards transformed
into a museum. Situated in Dublin, the library was founded in 1950.

   The old library was founded by Sir Alfred Chester Beatty. The library

The first is the Sacred Traditions devoted for religious scripts and book,

Ishak Pasha Palace in Turkey

   Situated in Doğubeyazıt district in the Eastern section of Turkey, the
Ishak Pasha Palace is a marvelous historical site that is off the touristic
rout due to its location away from popular touristic cities like Istanbul.
Nevertheless, some tour packages to Turkey would include a visit to the
Ishak Pasha Palace.
   The Ishak Palace dates to the end of the 17 th century. It was built in 1685
when the Ottoman Empire was in one of the most flourishing periods.
The palace was established by Colak Abdi Pasha and his son, Ishak,
compeleted it with the help of the grandson Mehmet. The palace was
completed in 1784.
   There are several wonderful sections of the palace that are still well-
preserved and represent some of the most amazing examples of Ottoman
palaces. These sections include Exterior façades the courts, Harem or
women section, the mosque, the Turkish baths, and many other
remarkable places.

The Ancient Village of Sortelha in Portugal

   With its significantly important strategic location over a mountain
overlooking the whole area, the village of Sortelha witnessed a rich

   Historical records never asserted when the village was really established.
However, historians affirm there was some sort of human settlements at
the area as early as the Bronze and Iron Ages. It was King Sancho who

Tin Mal Ancient Town in Morocco

   Situated inside a village in one of the huge Atlas Mountains, Tin Mal
hosts a large impressive fortress and army stronghold that dates to the
Almohad dynasty. Today, this ancient town is one of the marvelous
historical sites tourists who visit Morocco are keen to explore.
   Tin Mal was founded in 1124 by Ibn Tumart, the establisher of the
Almohad dynasty, which used to control a huge area expanding from
Morocco to Tunisia. Among the most wonderful elements of Tin Mal,
there is the large mosque that was constructed around the middle of the
12 th century.
   The interior sections of the mosque have undergone an extensive
restoration process. This is why it is still well-preserved until today.
There is the remarkable Mihrab with its special ornaments. The minaret
with its huge design makes travelers who tour Morocco think it is a
castle from far away.

The Jaisalmer Fort in India

   Situated in Rajasthan, precisely in the city of Jaisalmer, the Jaisalmer
Fort is a distinctive historical site several tourists who travel to India are
keen to explore.
   A remarkable fact about Jaisalmer Fort is that it still hosts a large
number of people who live within its fortified walls. Hundreds of years
ago, the whole city of Jaisalmer was located inside this huge fort. The
first group of people who started to reside outside the fort was during the
17 th century.
   The fort is rather large in all its dimensions. It is 460 meters in long and
230 meters of Width. It is also more than 70 meters above the whole
area around it. Although many sections of the fort date back to the 12 th
century, many places were resorted during the middle of the 17 th century.
With four gates, the Jaisalmer is one marvelous site tourists who spend
their vacations in India should never miss.

Burgos Cathedral in Spain

   The Burgos Cathedral, or the Cathedral of Saint Mary, is located in a
city that holds the same name, Burgos. The construction works of the
cathedral started in 1221 with distinctive Gothic style and outlines.
Today, it is among the unique historical sites commonly included in

   However, the most unparalleled sections of the Burgos Cathedral were
built during the 15 th and 16 th centuries including the remarkable façade,
the Chapel of Constable, and many other elegant features.
   The façade of St. Mary with its unique pointed arches represent the most
