The Cathedral of Orvieto is one of the most impressive Christian
monuments of Italy. Located in Orvieto in central Italy, the cathedral
was constructed during the 14 th century. Today, many tourists who spend
their vacations in Italy would explore this distinctive cathedral.
Dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the cathedral is
perhaps the most important historical site of Orvieto and the whole
region. The façade of the cathedral is considered an open-air museum of
Christian styles of construction with elements dating to various periods
of time.
The interior of the Orvieto Cathedral is featured with two magnificent
chapels that were extensively painted by some of the most skillful Italian
Renaissance artists. Although situated relatively away from the touristic
route of the country, a visit to the cathedral is a must for travelers who
are fond of art and history.
