The Towering Minaret of Hassan in Morocco

The Towering Minaret of Hassan is one of the most remarkable historical sites of Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Constructed at the end of the 12th century, the establishment was carried out by Al Mansur who wanted to turn Rabat to be a huge city as it appears from the large size of the minaret. Today, the Towering Minaret of Hassan is one of the most wonderful historical sites of Rabata that is included in many travel packages to Morocco.

In fact, Al Mansur and all Almohad rulers wanted to have their own copy of the Great Mosque of Cordoba. After the death of Al Mansur, the construction project of the mosque stopped. An earth quake in the middle of the 18th century destroyed everything except this marvelous huge minaret.

In fact, the measurements of the Towering Minaret of Hassan are quite gigantic. It is more than 183 meters in height and around 140 meters in width. With its distinctive ornaments and decorations, it grabs the attention of many tourists who travel to Morocco.
