The Camlica Hill in Turkey

By Seif Kamel
Why do tourists who spend their vacations in Turkey visit the Camlica
Hill? Situated in Istanbul, the hill, first of all, offers magnificent views
of the Bosporus Strait and the Marmara Sea. Travelers commonly would
enjoy a cup of tea or a drink while they watch the surrounding beauty.
As a matter of fact, there are actually two hills in this area. The first one
is the small hill, 228 meters above sea level and other one is the big hill,
267 meters above sea level, as literally translated from the Turkish
language.
The rulers of the Ottoman Empire had special attention towards the
Camlica Hill. This resulted in the construction of various buildings and
establishments in different sections of the hill. These include a summer
resort by Murat IV and a bridge by Mehmet IV, in addition to some
appealing fountains.
