The Monastery of Saint Paul in Egypt

By Seif Kamel
Situated at the Eastern Desert of Egypt, around 300 kilometers away
from Zaafrana, overlooking the Red Sea, the Monastery of Saint Paul is
one of the remarkable Coptic historical sites in the land of the Nile.
Saint Paul was born as the son of a wealthy tradesman in the
Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria. However, when he converted
to Christianity he was the first worshipper to escape in the Eastern
Desert. Today, his monastery welcomes hundreds of tourists who visit
Egypt.
The Monastery of St Paul was established around a cave where he
resided. Featured with many icons and morals of the Christ and the
Virgin Mary, the monastery is a great example of the Coptic designs and
outlines.
